Mig Welding Bronze to Steel

TNN Engineering provides a service of welding bronze to steel. We use a MIG (GMAW) process to deposit welds onto steel or bronze parts.

This process is particularly useful for adding bronze bearing surfaces to steel components. A pad of bronzes is welded to the steel part and then machined back to the required shape. This provides excellent adhesion of the bronze to the steel and is much more robust and impact-resistant compared with brazing processes.

We use Silicon Bronze wire in our Pulse Mig Welder to produce consistent and porosity free welds. This process is also suitable for welding of Copper-Silicon alloys. The wire we use conforms with AWS/ASME-SFA A5.7 classifications.

Suggested applications of this process include:

  • Adding sacrificial bronze bearing pads to sliding steel components
  • Repair and building up of copper-based alloys parts, eg, bronze pump impellers
  • Welding of marine components subject to corrosion
  • Welding of hot water systems, heat exchangers and clarifiers

Please contact us to discuss the possibilities that this process could offer.
