You have questions? We have answers!

Some of the more common questions we at TNN Engineering are often asked are below. Click on one of the tabs and hopefully, you’ll find the answer you’re looking for. And if not, we invite you to give us a call directly on 07 3271 5424 and one of our friendly team members will be happy to have a chat with you and help you out.

Quoting

  • Drawings of the part showing all dimensions, tolerances, holes, openings, angles, thread sizes. The material type, grade and fittings required to make the part. Also if the part needs to be treated in anyway eg. Galvanized or hardened.
  • Quantity, batch sizes and estimated usage or forecast
  • Lead times
  • Contact Details this includes Name, Company Name, Phone number, address, shipping address and email address.
  • The best way to send us drawings to quote is via email. You can also mail or give it in person.
  • We can also quote from CAD, however we prefer PDFs.
  • We provide duplication or reverse engineering from your sample part.
  • All prices are GST exclusive.
  • All prices do not include shipping costs.
  • We quote on all batch sizes.
  • Special pricing for Urgent parts.
  • We have a $150 minimum charge for new customers.
  • On orders over $1000 we will require a 50% deposit
  • We require full payment prior to pickup or despatch for non-account customers
  • 2-3 weeks from your order date.
  • We also provide fast turn around services, where we can get your part to you from 1 day to a week.
  • We deliver locally, Australia wide or world wide.
  • We can arrange a courier of your choice or you can organise the courier service.
  • Pick-up available

Machining

  • We can maintain tolerances of 10 microns on most components. ie 0.01 mm
  • Our general tolerance for machining is 0.3 mm
  • We can turn components upto 500 mm in diameter
  • Our milling machines can machine parts upto 1200 x 700 x 500 mm
  • We can accommodate up to 90 mm through the spindle bore of our lathes
  • We can bar feed up to 60mm

Fabrication

  • We can weld Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminum
  • Yes, we have a welding machine and consumables that can perform bronze welding.
  • We can weld bronze to bronze or bronze to steel.
  • No, we can only weld and fabricate items at our workshop in Carole Park
  • Please allow 2-3 weeks for a typical fabrication job to be completed
  • External operations such as Galvanising and Powder coating can add an extra 1-2 weeks for each process

3D Printing

  • We print mainly in ABS plastic.  The same stuff that Lego is made from.
  • We can also print PLA.  It is not as strong as ABS, but has less shrinkage.
  • We can work with STL, IGES, STEP or SAT files.
  • Most prints can be done overnight.
  • Larger prints can take a few days to process.
  • Generally, 3D printed parts are about 1/10 of the price of a machined component.

Prototyping

  • Depending on the complexity, it normally takes 2-3 weeks.
  • The majority of the cost in a prototype is the programming and setup.  The unit cost of the prototypes can be greatly reduced by increasing the quantity to 2 or more parts.
  • Please provide as much detail about the component as possible. Eg, tolerances and critical features and dimensions.
  • Consider 3D printing (rapid prototyping) some of the less critical components.
